| Abstract: | Spectroscopic investigations in Al2O3:Er waveguides demonstrate that fast quenching of a fraction of ions - undetected in typical lumescence decay measurements - limits the amplifier performance. With optimized parameters 3 dB/cm net gain is feasible. |
