Abstract:	A simple and intuitive procedure for evaluating the degeneracy of the modes of photonic crystal fibers is presented. The procedure requires only a visual inspection of the vector plots of the transverse modal field profiles and can be applied without knowing group theory and without doing extra computations. Several examples are given.
