| Abstract: | We present an architecture for the scheduling of processes in a system running multimedia applications. The scheduler must take into account the Quality of Service and real time requirements of the processes it schedules. We allow processes to adjust their resource use to current load and schedule periodic processes with lowest possible overhead. We present a scheduler and dispatcher for systems that manage a mixed work load of multimedia applications and conventional applications. A Quality-of-Service manager, along with applications that adapt their Quality of Service to available resources allows the system's performance to degrade gracefully under load. |
