| Abstract: | In this thesis, the stability of fractional Josephson vortices in Josephson junctions with phase shifts is investigated analytically and numerically. A Josephson junction which is made of two superconductors separated by a thin insulator can have phase shifts in its phase difference due to, e.g., the unconventional symmetry of the superconductors or a pair of current-injectors. In such a system, a magnetic field can be spontaneously generated at the discontinuity points that characterize the position of the phase shifts. |
