Abstract:	The i.r. absorption spectra of surface formate and gas phase decomposition products resulting from different surface reactions over basic FAU(X) zeolites have been compared. Based on these results a bridging surface formate species is proposed, which can account for the observed i.r. absorption data and different gas phase products
