Abstract:A hydrogel-based sensor is presented for CO2 measurements. The sensor consists of a pressure sensor and porous silicon cover. A pH-sensitive hydrogel is confined between the two parts. Furthermore the porous cover contains a bicarbonate solution and a gaspermeable membrane. CO2 reacts with the solution resulting in a pH change. The hydrogel responds to this by generating a certain pressure which is measured by the pressure sensor. Experiments show that the sensor responds to CO2 steps within reasonable time and with good signal response. Especially due to the lack of any reference electrode this sensor principle proofs to have great potentials.
