Abstract:	This dissertation is concerned with high performance medium access control (MAC) protocols for multiple-wavelength optical packet-switched (MOPS) rings carrying Internet traffic. The focus of the dissertation is on access control protocol to transport variable size packets and access fairness protocols to enforce fairness under various traffic conditions.
