Abstract:	The PIT Project is an initiative in The Netherlands whose goal is to stimulate the increased, effective integration of information technology in curriculum-area instruction in lower-secondary schools. Beginning with the 1993-94 school year and involving nearly 20% of all lower-secondary schools, over 1000 teachers, and over 30 curriculum specialists, the Project has used the strategy of teacher networking to bring teachers together to share and learn from each other’s experiences as a key strategy. An extensive external evaluation has been carried out of the initiative throughout its first two years and the results of that evaluation are reposed here. Major conclusions are that computer use in the classroom by lower-secondary teachers appears to have significantly increased during the Project, and that teacher networking is supposed as an important new strategy for teacher in-service and professional development.
