Abstract:	A series of neutral water soluble calix[4]arenes was synthesized via direct chlorosulfonylation followed by reaction with hydroxyl group-containing amines. The solubility of these calix[4]arene sulfonamides in water, as determined by means of UV measurements, varies from ~ 10−5 to 0.31 M.
