Abstract:Water-soluble resorcin[4]arene based cavitands were obtained in good yields by reaction of bromomethylcavitands with pyridine. Their solubility was determined by conductometry. The behaviour in water depends on the alkyl chain length; the methylcavitand does not aggregate, whereas the pentyl- and undecylcavitands do, as was shown by 1H NMR spectroscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy.
